The Summer Neuroscience Program (SNP) is an eight-week summer research experience that enables undergraduates to jumpstart their Graduation with Distinction senior theses by working one-on-one with faculty mentors. The full program is open only to rising juniors and seniors who are declared Neuroscience majors.
Students work on individual projects with their mentors to gather more information for research independent study projects that will be done throughout the fall and spring semesters.
SNP is part of the Bass Connections Brain & Society theme.
Timing
SNP takes place across eight weeks of the summer, and students may participate full-time or part-time.
In Summer 2023, the program will run from May 22 through July 14. Applications will open on December 12, 2022, and close on February 3, 2023. Students will be notified of acceptance by March 1, 2023.
Compensation
Full-time participants receive a $3,500 stipend. Mentors receive $1,000 toward their discretionary fund. Students participating part-time may elect to take one summer school course during term I or II and receive a stipend of $1,750 (mentors receive $500).
Form strong connections with faculty mentors
"I chose the Summer Neuroscience Program because I wanted to learn from my peers in neuroscience and form a lasting connection with my research lab ... [Through the program] I've been able to invest myself fully in the lab and form strong connections with my mentors."
–Julia Leeman ’24 (Neuroscience)
Prepare for careers in research and medicine
"Being a part of this lab and understanding how we can make a difference in patients’ lives … and how research works … really helps to set me up for a career not only in medicine but in clinical research, as well."
–Arsha Sharna ’23 (Neuroscience)
